Overview
As a student in the late 1960s, Eddie Jessup was viewed as brilliant eccentric who conducted experiments in a sensory deprivation chamber for fun, most often using himself as the test subject. Years later, having left behind his wild, unconventional youth, Eddie is now a well-respected professor at Harvard Medical School. Longing to restore the thrills of his past, Eddie resumes his experiments, this time using exotic drugs to create the illusion of sensory deprivation. His wife and colleagues become alarmed as Eddie's behavior becomes increasingly erratic. They do not believe his claims that he is able to enter an altered state of both mental and physical being, but are afraid that, if true, Eddie's actions in his newfound state may be uncontrollable and cause irreparable damage.
