Overview
Andrew is a robot programmed to be a helper to his human owners, but over the course of this service he gains sentience. He is released from servitude by his owner, who then banishes him. Although Andrew is present at his previous owner's deathbed, he still feels immense sadness at the loss. As time goes on, Andrew develops more and more human characteristics as technology advances. Through a series of upgrades, he gains the ability to experience romance, a sense of taste, and a central nervous system. He petitions to be recognized as a human so he can marry, but is denied. He decides to undergo having blood introduced into his brain, which will allow him to age and, eventually, die. He is granted personhood just before he passes away beside his love.
