Following the death of her father, Milly Michaelson has moved into a different neighborhood and house with her mother and younger brother. Milly's mother Charlene navigates her return to the workforce, her brother Louis seeks to avoid bullies and Milly herself tries to adjust to her new school. Milly's next door neighbor, Eric Gibb, captures her attention when she sees him spend hours with his arms out, attempting to fly. Eric, an orphan living with his alcoholic Uncle Hugo since losing his parents in a plane crash, has not spoken a word aloud since.
