Overview
Earl is an Arkansas man who runs a rental place. He has the typical mindset of that area and time. He lives with his parents, along with his wife and kids. Earl's mother dies leaving him the shocking news that he is the son of an African American woman who died giving birth. His mother also reveals that he has a half-brother Ray, and that she thinks Earl needs to go see Ray. Earl travels to Chicago, where he is met with less than a warm welcome from Ray and Virgil, who is Ray's son. Aunt T. is his biological mother's sister who tries to bring the family together. After a series of mishaps and angry confrontations, the family comes together. Earl goes back to Arkansas, and takes Ray with him to meet the family and visit their mother's grave.
