Overview
Louise is a tough waitress looking forward to a girl's weekend with her friend, Thelma. With a husband that watches her every move, Thelma is too scared to ask permission to leave for the weekend. As an act of defiance, Thelma jumps in Louise's car and off they go on an adventure of a lifetime. Their picturesque, mountain vacation turns into a race for Mexico when trouble strikes the girls at a local bar. Dancing with Harlan most of the night, a drunken Thelma is attacked and almost raped by her new acquaintance. Louise finds the two in the parking lot and brandishes a gun. Harlan is shot dead by Louise's hand. The girls must decide between jail or freedom. With a dark history of her own, Louise wants to run. Thelma, finding no redeeming value in her marriage, agrees to run with Louise.
