Overview
In 1950s Texas, Deputy Lou Ford pays a visit to a local prostitute, Joyce, to tell her she needs to take her trade elsewhere. Instead, the two begin a passionate sadomasochistic love affair despite Ford's engagement to Amy, a local teacher. Joyce is also seeing Elmer Conway who is the son of the town's construction mogul. Ford believes Elmer's father is responsible for the death of his brother who took the fall for Ford's boyhood rape of a child and went to prison. Joyce wants Ford to help her extort money from the Conways, but Ford has more sinister designs on the family. The scheme careens wildly out of control as Ford is no longer able to keep his psychopathic side under wraps.
