Marnie Edgar is a cunning thief with a deep distrust of men. She is plagued by her strong fear of the color red and thunderstorms. She uses her natural beauty and charm to steal money. Marnie meets the handsome Mark Rutland, a customer of Sidney Strutt, her recent robbery victim. Mark hires Marnie in spite of knowing she's a thief. Mark strikes up a relationship with Marnie and falls in love. Marnie steals from his company and leaves. He tracks her down and blackmails her into marrying him. Mark becomes obsessed with uncovering the reason for her behavior. He finds out that Marnie has a deep, dark secret buried within her mind.
