Brewster Baker is a race car driver trying desperately to make a comeback. During a brief stop in a small Texan town, he discovers that his stock car has been rapidly and professionally stripped and his brand new engine missing. The culprits are a teenage orphan and her five car-enthusiast younger brothers, and because of their young age no means of lawful recovery will be possible. The dishonest local sheriff seizes the majority of profits from their theft in trade for not forcing them into an orphanage. Finding the children's deal with the sheriff distasteful, Brewster allows them to join him, unexpectedly becoming a surrogate father figure. Due to the orphans' eagerness and impressive mechanical talent, Brewster's career once again progresses on the racing circuit. |
