Overview
The Strelzyks and Wetzels are two families desperate to escape autocratic, communist-controlled East Germany during the Cold War years of a divided Germany. They formulate a daring plan to build a homemade balloon. The plan is to sail the dicey floatation craft over the Berlin Wall at night to land in free West Germany. Based on a true story, the two families cobble together a hot-air balloon piece by piece by scrounging patches of spare cloth and whatever else they can find to construct a basket that will carry eight people to freedom.
