Overview
Desperate to prevent their son from being placed into foster care, Lou Jean Poplin forces her spouse, Clovis, to escape from a Texas prison farm, stealing a car in the process as they make their way to retrieve their child. After crashing the stolen automobile, the pair takes a local police officer hostage and become part of a caravan of police vehicles and news vans as they slowly make their way to Wheelock, Texas and the home of the boy's foster parents. During a shootout there, Clovis is killed and Lou Jean is arrested, with the kidnapped police officer escaping unharmed.
