Overview
Luke is a rebellious young man who is arrested for a minor crime and winds up in a prison in the middle of nowhere. He is rather unaffected by his predicament at first, and he soon gains the respect of his fellow inmates with impressive physical feats such as eating a ridiculous number of eggs all at once. His independent spirit allows him to enjoy himself even in his harsh surroundings. Gradually, though, he comes to resent his captors more and more. He works on a chain gang with his fellow inmates, and this offers him opportunities to make a break for it. When he defies the cruel but falsely ingratiating prison warden one too many times, he becomes a target of his full malice.
