This romantic drama is based on an adult fiction novel of the same name. It features two teenagers named Violet Markey and Theodore Finch who are driven to escape their Indiana hometown. After her sister's death, Violet is driven to attempt suicide by jumping off the ledge of her school's bell tower. Finch finds her there and expresses his surprise at her depression, given that she is a popular and active member of their school.
