Chicago, late 1990s: serial killer Frank Visser has already claimed the lives of 17 young women by the time he's arrested by Detect Thomas McCormack. Due to a legal technicality Visser gets released and McCormack is consumed by guilt and commits suicide. 20 years later his son John tracks down Visser and devises a strategy to finally bring him to justice: he pretends to be an aspiring serial killer who's seeking out Visser to be his mentor. What follows next is a steadily increasing battle of wits as John tires to lure the man who destroyed his father into a trap but ends up putting his own freedom and life on the line.
