Smoke depicts the difficult family situations of six characters passing through the Brooklyn Cigar Company. The owner of the shop, Auggie Wren, runs into an ex-girlfriend who needs help dealing with her pregnant daughter's drug problem. He soon finds out that he may be the girl's father. Paul Benjamin, a writer who frequents the store, is saved from a potentially fatal accident by Rashid, a young black man who happens to be passing by at the time. Paul and Rashid begin an unlikely friendship and take off in search of Rashid's estranged father. |
