Marco, an ambitious journalist, draws an assignment to interview Lydia, a bullfighter and celebrity. Although the encounter does not go smoothly, the two eventually grow closer until Lydia is gored in the ring and plunges into a coma. At the clinic where Lydia now lives, Marco encounters a young nurse Benigno; the two strike up a friendship. Benigno introduces Alicia, a classical dancer and another comatose patient. Lonely and with little purpose in his life, Benigno has become a devoted nurse to Alicia, and spends most of his time at her side as a reader, conversationalist and companion. Sure that the stricken ballerina is conscious of his attentions, Benigno guides Marco in the art of communicating with the woman that he loves on the deepest level. |
