Overview
The Army of Northern Virginia moves into the small town of Gettysburg, Pennsylvania and ignites what becomes the signature, three-day battle of the American Civil War. The Confederate army, led by General Robert E. Lee, is hoping to defeat the U.S. forces, the Army of the Patomac, and eventually move on Washington, D.C. to force and end to the war. The Northern army sets up a defense of several positions over three days of desperate fighting. A number of key battles ensue as momentum swings between the Northern and Southern armies. The fate of a divided nation rides on the actions of ordinary men who become heroes in the face of fierce fighting in places like Little Round Top, the Devil's Den and Seminary Ridge.
