Christy Brown has had a challenging but inspiring life. Born with severe cerebral palsy, the only part of his body that he can fully control is his left foot. One day when he’s ten, his father is astounded to see him using his foot to write on the floor. Despite hardships as a working-class Irish family, Christy’s parents encourage their son in his writing and artistic pursuits. Christy becomes an artist and engages in life to a fuller extent that his family might have believed possible. He sometimes finds it difficult to watch his family making difficult decisions all around him. He also falls into despair over an unrequited romance. In the end, he finds love and a measure of artistic success.
