Patrick Bateman has it all. He is a wealthy executive for a Manhattan investment banking firm. He dines at the city's best high-end restaurants, owns the most expensive products and enjoys all the comforts that money can buy. He even has a beautiful and intelligent fiancee. Patrick Bateman is also bored and hates his life. He would probably deny it publicly, but he considers his job and societal expectations tedious and his friends shallow and oblivious. Does Patrick Bateman have good reason to feel this way? It's difficult to say, but he thinks he does. And Bateman doesn't hesitate to kill people in vicious and brutal ways to make himself feel better. If we're to believe him, no one cares that he's a serial killer.
