A group of poor boys growing up on the wrong side of the tracks, Greasers, are having a problem with the rich kids, Socials, in their town. Then Johnny, a greaser with an alcoholic and abusive father accidentally kills a Social that attacks Ponyboy a greaser being raised by his older brother. The boys flee town to escape the law and hide out in an old abandoned church. They are helped by their friend Dallas, who is known to be a criminal because he feels he is stuck. When Johnny rescues some children trapped in a burning building and dies, the boys realize how much Johnny's innocence meant to Dallas when he goes on a criminal rampage. |
