Deloris van Cartier is interrupted in Las Vegas by her former nun sisters, Mary Lazarus, Mary Robert and Mary Patrick. The Sisters approach Deloris with hopes of getting her to rejoin their community and help them keep St. Francis Catholic School open. Feeling a sense of obligation towards her former school, Deloris agrees to teach their music class as Sister Mary Clarence. Mary Clarence soon discovers that her students have enough talent to form a choir. After trying to convince Father Maurice and the other monks to give the chorus a chance, they make it to the state championship; but, not without struggling to persuade Rita -- a hard put, yet gifted, student -- and her overbearing mother too. The choir wins the grand prize of the championship, which is enough to keep the school open for good. |
