Beverly Donofrio has big dreams of escaping his small town life and becoming a writer. Those dreams are destroyed when she sleeps and becomes pregnant with boyfriend Ray’s child. Her father is distraught by what has happened to his daughter, and he shames her into marrying Ray and staying in town. From the start, Beverly is unhappy with her life. She doesn’t like her home, her husband, and most of the time, she doesn’t even like her child, Jason. As the years pass, Beverly and Jason begin to resent one another, and only after Beverly pens her memoirs recounting her life as a young mother does Beverly and Jason begin to repair their relationship. |
