Overview
Before there was Eddie Murphy and Chris Rock, there was Richard Pryor; and he wasn't an actor. He was one of the top stand-up performers in the country. Richard Pryor lights up the stage in this 1979 filming of one of his comedy concerts. Pryor is shown at the height of his genius. Although often known for his foul language, he makes sure his audience knows that he's more than a few curse words. He is humorous anecdotes and fantastic physical comedy that includes impersonations and character performances. No topic is off limits. Pryor covers everything from race and societal taboos to the thoughts of animals. He also finds a way to make serious and scary topics funny including abuse, prison sentences and heart attacks.
