Overview
Leo Davidson (Mark Wahlberg) is an astronaut who serves on the space station Oberon and trains chimpanzees for space missions. Leo's favorite research subject, a chimpanzee named Pericles, is sent out in a shuttle to probe an approaching electromagnetic storm and subsequently disappears. Venturing into the storm after Pericles, Leo crash-lands on an unfamiliar planet where the roles of ape and man have been reversed; apes have evolved into a more humanoid form, and treat the feral humans of the planet as animals and research subjects. Leo is captured by the apes and meets a female researcher and human rights advocate named Ari (Helena Bonham Carter) who takes interest in him due to his high intelligence relative to other humans. With the help of Ari, Leo frees other human slaves and leads a rebellion against ape rule.
