Overview
A struggling writer falls in with a group of lavish entertainers at the popular club Moulin Rouge. They hire him to write a play for them, and he is happy to make some money doing what he loves among bohemian artists who live such an exciting life. However, his happiness is complicated by the fact that he has fallen in love with a woman who works as an exotic dancer and escort at the club. A wealthy businessman who lusts after her has the power to shut down the club if he doesn't get what he wants, so the poor writer is compelled to suffer in silence even though his affections are eventually returned. Meanwhile, an even greater force threatens the woman he desperately loves.
