Overview
Margaret and Helen Schlegel are two sisters living in Edwardian England. They get to know the wealthy and aristocratic Wilcox family, who own a house called Howards End. At first it appears that Helen will marry their younger son Paul, but they break off the engagement. Later, Margaret becomes close to Mrs. Wilcox, so close that the lady decides to leave her Howards End upon her death. The Wilcox sons aren’t pleased about this and hide the will. Out of guilt, Henry Wilcox marries Margaret, but their marriage is filled with tensions arising from their different class and upbringing. They especially fall out over the proper way to treat Helen, who has become pregnant by a lower class man named Leonard.
