John Clayton, son of the Earl of Graystoke, becomes shipwrecked along with his pregnant wife along the coast of Africa. They build a treehouse, where Clayton's wife gives birth to a son. She dies of a fever soon after and Clayton is killed by a clan of apes who invade the house. One of the female apes takes the boys and raises him. Years later the grown apeman, named Tarzan, is found by a hunting party. A member of the party uncovers his true identity and is determined to return him to Graystoke. Tarzan struggles trying to connect with this foreign world while members of his new family wonder whether Tarzan's real home is at Graystoke or back in Africa with his adopted ape family. |
