Overview
James Bond returns from a mission to the USSR with both the body of a fallen comrade and a computer microchip. Analysis by Q determines that the chip, designed by Zorin Industries, is made to withstand the electromagnetic impulses of a nuclear explosion that would destroy normal chips. Bond sets off for California in search of Max Zorin and to thwart his plan to destroy Silicon Valley in a man-made massive earthquake. Posing as a wealthy horsebuyer, Bond attempts to infiltrate Zorin's world but is found out and narrowly escapes. With the help of state geologist Stacey Sutton, who is bent on exposing Zorin after he takes over her oil company, Bond finds the proof of Zorin's plan to wipe out the U.S. microchip industry. The pair chase Zorin into the northern California mountains in an attempt to prevent him from staging his takeover.
