Kyle Lee Watson is a star basketball player for his high school team with dreams of playing in the NBA. Dreams that seem to be close to realization as his skills attract college scouts; among them a Georgetown recruiter. Then there’s the Shoot-Out, an intense tournament sponsored by local businessmen of all kinds that promises shallow, short-lived glory. Initially Kyle plans to play for his coaches’ team, but finds himself persuaded to play for Birdie, a well-known drug dealer. Enter Shep, a former local legend turned security guard, who tries to convince Kyle to escape Birdie’s influence. As the tournament comes to a head, Kyle finds himself torn between the worlds these two men represent; faced with a choice between victory and ruin.
