In Mudbound, the ramifications of World War II come into play, albeit in two markedly different ways. Jamie and Ronsel are veterans who return to their lives in rural Mississippi after the war. Ronsel is black, and must struggle with racism after he had had a positive reception from white Europeans while he was serving overseas. Meanwhile, Jamie struggles with Post Traumatic Stress Disorder, or PTSD, and can't stop reliving the horrors of what he experienced during the war.
