Overview
Charlton Heston stars as Stewart Graff, a scientist with a contentious marriage. His wife fakes a suicide attempt and, as Graff tries to revive her, a huge tremor rocks their house. Elsewhere, two policemen chase a criminal into Beverly Hills, crashing into a rich lady's yard. One of them gets suspended for mouthing off to a superior officer. Meanwhile, seismologists learn that Los Angeles will have a major earthquake. They decide not to alert the public because they might be wrong. More subplots unfold. Graff has an affair with an actress. The suspended policeman gets drunk. Then the earthquake hits, decimating Los Angeles. Graff tries to save his wife from drowning and both are swept away.
