Overview
Laurel Hester has a decorated service record in the New Jersey police force, but her exemplary service means little under the smothering blanket of discrimination. When she is diagnosed with terminal cancer, she must fight not only against the disease ravaging her body, but the government, as well. The board refuses to release her pension and benefits to her domestic partner, Stacie Andree, as gay marriage is not yet legally recognized. Laurel spends her last days fighting to prove that her partner deserves to be cared for and protected.
