Devon Miles, a talented high school graduate from Harlem, accepts a full scholarship to A&T University in Atlanta. Upon his arrival, Devon quickly adapts to the school's culture by making a name for himself in its prestigious marching band. Devon's skills are enough to impress the band's musical director, Dr. Lee, but his attitude isn't. One of Devon's fellow band mates, Sean, also doesn't approve of his overconfidence and tries to put him in his place as a rookie. Regardless, Devon knows where his talent lies: Even though he can't read music, he does know how to entertain a crowd. Dr. Lee, who is far more interested in "real" music and not just what's popular, tries unsuccessfully to keep Devon on a leash and prevent him from changing the course of the band. |
