Overview
Apple is 16 years old, pregnant and abused physically and emotionally by her mother, a drug-addicted prostitute grooming her daughter to also become a prostitute. Apple, street-wise and savvy and wanting more out of her life, runs away to find her father, a man who had deserted her mother when he was 19 and is now a successful broker on Wall Street. Though initially willing to take Apple in, he pushes her away when she decides to keep the baby. On the streets again, Apple is taken in by a kindly chaplain who runs a shelter for pregnant girls. In the shelter, Apple learns to care for herself and her child by bonding with the other women there in the same situation as herself.
