Overview
Solomon Northup lives in New York in the years before the Civil War. One day, he is abducted and sold into slavery. During his twelve years as a slave, he must endure horrific hardships, particularly at the hands of a brutal slaveowner by the name of Edwin Epps. While his life is filled with misery, he retains his strength and dignity and is grateful for the small kindnesses that he receives from people of good will. He continues to hold out hope for a day when he may be liberated from his cruel state, and his big chance comes when he happens to meet with an abolitionist named Bass. Solomon's faith and endurance may just bring him back to freedom.
