Life is no fairytale in Sleeping Beauty because there are no princesses, heroes or moral lessons in Lucy's (Emily Browning) story. Lucy works several jobs while attending university until she takes a job wearing lingerie and serving drinks at a dinner party. This leads to a more lucrative position, but the work is strange and leads Lucy down a dark path. Lucy's life begins to fall apart when she gets evicted and her friend (Ewen Leslie) overdoses on drugs. While her life becomes unstable, Lucy continues her new work that consists of drinking a suspicious tea and sleeping while men pay to lie beside her. A happy ending seems unlikely when Lucy's life further deteriorates, and she becomes more intrigued with her strange profession. |
