Trailer | Overview The assassination of Abraham Lincoln in April, 1865, and the attempted killing of Secretary of State William Seward, prompts a swift round-up of conspirators accused of helping John Wilkes Booth in his bold plan to kill the president during the course of a play at Ford's Theater. Seven men and Mary Surratt, a boardinghouse owner, are arrested for the crime, which has plunged Washington and the nation into grief and a call for swift vengeance. A young attorney and Union veteran, Frederick Aiken, agrees to work in Surratt's defense. While investigating Surratt's role in the conspiracy, he concludes that she is being used as bait to draw in another, much more important target of the manhunt: Surratt's own son. |
