William Wilberforce cannot understand the refusal of the British Parliament to seriously consider the abolition of slavery. He believes that no human being should be held as captive slave to another. Because of his failing health, he takes a vacation in hopes of feeling better and better rested. He does not get the time off that he expected as he soon learns befriends other men involved in the fight against slavery including former slave Olaudah Equiano and reformed slave ship captain John Newton.
