Overview
When Italy is allied with Germany in war-torn Europe, a small Italian Battalion is built on a small island off Greece's coast. Captain Corelli, stationed there, decides to befriend the residents of the island and take part in their cultural activities. He falls in love with and courts the doctor's daughter. The peace doesn't last as the Italians break their alliance with Germany. The Germans invade the once placid island, and Captain Corelli has to fight to save the people he has become to call his own.
