Overview
Yentl Mendel is the daughter and only child of Rebbe Mendel who teaches the Talmud to the local boys and secretly to his daughter. After Rebbe dies, Yentl leaves the village disguised as a young man to continue her studies. Keeping her secret leads to several complications including being asked to marry a woman whose parents have rejected her fiancee. Eventually Yentl finds her way to America where she can study as a woman and leave her disguise behind.
