Fanny is a white woman with mental issues who sleeps with a white man that is not her husband. The man ends up beating her after a fight. A few black workers hear the ruckus but take no action. To cover up her misdeed and explain her bruises she claims she was attached by a black man. In 1923 Rosewood, Florida, her story sets off the anger of local whites. Mann is a WWI veteran living in Rosewood because he loves his lady, Beulah. Mann quickly leaves town to escape possible lynching by a white mob. While gone, he finds out Rosewood is being attacked. Mann races back to save Beulah and the children in her care. |
