Overview
Frank Beardsley is a widowed naval officer who struggles to control his eight children without a motherly influence in their lives. Helen North is a widowed nurse with ten children of her own who goes to work at the naval base where Frank works. Helen and Frank start to date, hit it off and get married, which means combining households under on roof and living with the reality of 18 children running amok. The children stake territorial claims on their family situations, not wanting to acknowledge the other side until Helen's son Philip and Frank's son Mike form a bond which ripples through the whole family. When Helen and Frank announce that child number 19 is on the way, the family really comes together.
