Overview
In the 18th century, there was a boy named Redmond Barry. He lived on a farm in a small village in Ireland, but wanted more than anything in the world to life the live of a wealthy nobleman. So after running away to Dublin and being robbed of his possessions, he has no choice but to enlist in the British Army to fight in the Seven Years War. When he deserts the army, however, he becomes forced to join the Prussian Army. He then begins to lie, cheat, and steal his way through life, ultimately ending up in a loveless marriage with more wealth than he had ever dreamed of. It is only then that realizes this is not what he really wanted at all.
