Overview
Waldo Pepper was a pilot during World War I. After the war, however, he regularly exaggerates his accomplishments to impress others, coining himself "The Great Waldo Pepper." Along with many other pilots from the war, Pepper starts to make a living barnstorming all over the Midwest. Soon, however, a series of unexpected events lands him a job as a stunt pilot for films. On the set one day, he meets Ernst Kessler, a former German ace who Pepper had been claiming he fought with during the war. Pepper quickly finds out that Kessler is just as bored with civilian life as he is, and, much to the film director's dismay, the two decide to stage a real life dogfight.
