Meredith is an uptight, socially awkward businesswoman whose boyfriend invites her home with him for Christmas. She is shy and uncomfortable with large gatherings of people. What's more, as soon as she arrives, almost everyone in the family is antagonistic toward her, especially her potential future mother-in-law, who has a troubling secret that she plans to reveal to her family before the holidays are over. Meredith feels so ill at ease in her surroundings that she calls her sister and begs her to join her. She also finds herself drawn to her boyfriend's brother, who is the one member of his family who has reached out to her with kindness and compassion. Still, making it through the holidays with this family will be a challenge. |
