A fiery preacher named Sonny has a hard time living what he believes. When he finds out his wife is seeing the youth minister and also trying to get him removed from the church, he loses his temper and attacks the youth minister. When the man later dies, Sonny flees Texas. Once in Louisiana, he changes his name to “the Apostle” and begins to build a new church. His charismatic talents draw many people into his congregation and into relationship with God. Sonny begins to see another woman, but she reconciles with her husband. Eventually Sonny’s ex-wife hears him preaching on the radio and informs the police of his location. Sonny is sent to prison, where he begins to preach to his fellow inmates. |
