Overview
This influential sci-fi story explores ideas of evolution, and ultimately pits man against machine in a race to see who will evolve to the next level. Humankind discovers an artifact that was deliberately placed on the lunar surface, and presumably all over the universe, by beings unknown, with the intention of nudging evolution to the next step. This earth shattering discovery sparks a quest to find the artifact builders, in hopes of achieving evolution. However, human beings are not the only ones invested in this mission. The sentient onboard computer that operates the ship used in the mission achieves lifelike consciousness, and begins its own merciless quest for evolution and enlightenment.
