Working in a Southern factory is difficult but Norma Rae doesn't let that slow her down. She is a spirited, steadfast wife and mother and like most of her friends, family and neighbors, she is employed at the Henley Mill. One day, a labor organizer from New York named Reuben arrives, and Norma finds herself in the middle of the fight to bring a union into Henley Mill and improve working conditions for everyone. Everyone at the factory is against unions and the struggle becomes difficult and dangerous for Norma and Reuben.
