Overview
Anna Fitzgerald's parents conceived her to donate blood and tissue to her older sister. The sister, Kate, is suffering from a type of leukemia that is acute. Now Kate is going into renal failure and needs a kidney from Anna to stay alive. Anna states she does not want to donate a kidney. Her mother looks ready to force her, so Anna begins legal proceedings to become medically emancipated from her parents. The court case seem likely to tear the family apart, except leukemia-stricken Kate seems determined to live out what life she has left. She meets a boy, attends the prom and falls in love. The family even enjoys a rare outing at the beach. However, the specter of the court case and Kate's imminent death hover over all of them.
