An Education is a coming of age story about a 16-year-old girl in England who falls in love with an older man. Jenny, played by Carey Mulligan, is whip-smart and more worldly than her peers, but that does not stop her from falling victim to Peter's charms and schemes. Though she is well-liked at school, she cannot stop feeling like she does not quite belong there. She grows to believe that she is meant for something more, a belief that she thinks would be fulfilled by marrying Peter and living a life of parties and traveling. Her whole world comes crashing down when she learns that Peter is a con artist with a wife and child. She has dropped out of school to marry him, and she now realized how naive she has been. With the help of her favorite teacher, she manages to still get into university, where she never speaks of her past experiences, though it is hinted that she becomes a bit of a romantic schemer herself. |
