Overview
Willie Morris is a timid boy who lives in Yazoo City, Mississippi in 1942. He finds it difficult to make friends and lives a lonely life with mainly his mother and his books to keep him company. Things change, however, when his parents present him with a puppy to celebrate his ninth birthday. The neighborhood soon loves Skip, as he names the lovable Jack Russell terrier, and Willie becomes one of the more popular boys in his school. As Willie journeys into adulthood, Skip teaches him the importance of love, respect, and the right way to handle life's frustrations. The unconditional friendship of a boy and his dog shows us that some of the lessons we learn in life can be taught without words.
